Gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) were employed as extraction and desorption/ionization probes for simple and direct determination of glutathione in plant extracts by surface-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (SALDI MS). Limitation as well as the potential of the use of Au NPs and this method are demonstrated.
