Článek analyzuje postavení České národní banky v ekonomice a v kontextu Evropského systému centrálních bank (ESCB) porovnává míru a strukturu nezávislosti české a ostatních centrálních bank členských zemí EU. Analýza identifikuje rozdíly zejména v postavení (způsobu jmenování) managementu centrálních bank a navrhuje toto postavení sjednotit a přizpůsobit je nově vzniklé realitě ESCB: guvernér České národní banky by mohl být jmenován vládou a vystupovat tak v ESCB jako politický reprezentant České republiky.

The paper investigates the position of the Czech National Bank in the economy. Within the framework of the European System of Central Banks the ratio and the structure of the Czech and others national central banks independence are measured. The analysis identifies differences of the central banks managements position (particularly appointment) and puts forward to exploit these differences to change the Czech National Banks position: the governor should be appointed by the government to be an official political representative of the Czech Republic at the European System of Central Banks.
