Description Knowledge is generally considered as the source of economic growth and productivity increase and it is regarded as unique competitive advantage of enterprises, regions and countries. Especially knowledge that is called tacit is the important source of competitive advantage. Tacit knowledge is knowledge that cannot be moved to any other region. Creation and diffusion of knowledge are important prerequisites for innovation development and production of goods with high added value. In connection with this it is talked about called knowledge economy (or knowledge society in a broader interpretation). The knowledge-based economy is different from traditional economy in several aspects. The article deals with perceiving of this topic in scientific literature and indicates ways how to measure development of knowledge economy.
