Description This paper is dedicated to 3D visualization of cities and their parts. Visualization of urban models is progressive part of 3D geovisualization. 3D geovisualizations can be modified by so called context to specific situation, task, technical equipment or user’s abilities. Variable parameters, which can change rendered scene, are split into four categories. These categories are: content (data), appearance (symbology), illumination and properties of camera and projection. Particularities of component characteristics are also delineated. Implementation of variable elements in 3D graphical and GIS formats and programs has been compared. Main aspect of adaptive 3D visualization is indisputably its usage and applications. Sample visualization including different types of adaption has been made using X3DOM technology. Finally has been mentioned probable course of future development.
