Description This paper deals with the issue of expression of selected ecosystem functions and services within the river landscape area. The theme is solved using the example of a pair of small watercourse catchment localized in southern Moravia. For both catchments is typical the significant anthropogenic pressure on the natural environmental values. The different character of the basins in terms of their land use and land cover is reflected in the values of ecosystem services provided back to human society. This contribution points out the importance of the river landscape as an important ecotone, which increases the diversity of the landscape structure and also works as a transition or protective zone between the watercourse and the surrounding landscape.
