Description Based on the study of detrital garnets from the sediments of the Carpathian Foredeep of Karpatian (Miocene) age a model of probable sources has been submitted. The studied detrital garnets come from the boreholes around the towns of Kroměříž and Zlín. Based on the general geological situation the recycled deposits of the Magura flysch (Upper Jurassic – Lower Oligocene), the Silesian flysch (Upper Jurassic – Lower Miocene) and older (western) part of Drahany and Jeseník Culmian and younger (eastern) part of Drahany and Nízký Jeseník Culmian were assessed as the main potential sources of the sediments of the Karpatian age. The framework comparison of those units with a range of the analyzed detrital garnets of the Karpatian shows their higher affinity to the Silesian Group than to the Magura Group of the Carpathian flysch nappes. The comparison with the Moravian-Silesian Culmian shows higher affinity of the sediments of the Karpatian with the younger (eastern) parts of the Culmian than with the older (western) parts of the Drahany and Nízký Jeseník Culmian. No affinity with the underlying Brunovistulian crystalline unit was found.
