Description Treatise Il Saggiatore (The Assayer), the result of the conflict that arose between Galileo Galilei and the Jesuit Father Orazio Grassi, is not only a great example of a court dispute between two scientists. While questioning the Jesuit's moral qualities and scientific abilities, Medici's Court Mathematician also took occasion to present the new principles of scientific research held by Accademia dei Lincei. The presentation describes the new strategies of scientific communication adopted by Galileo, such as favouring the Italian language over Grassi's academic Latin. The presentation also deals with Galileo's emphasis on the importance of the clear, apposite and precise language, the impossibility of changing the truth with words and the necessity of cautiousness and doubt, as expressed in this unofficial manifest of a new way of thinking in the field of natural philosophy.
