Description ICP-OES spectrometers with low and high spectral resolving power were compared with regard to the determination of rare earth elements (REEs). Due to large number of mutual spectral interferences of REEs; the correction (interference) factors were used for interferences correction. This approach was useful for spectrometer with low spectral resolving power, where the corrections were found significant. As was expected in case spectrometers with high spectral resolving power considerably better results were obtained without corrections whilst further results improvement by using correction factors was insignificant. To confirm the effectiveness of corrections the model samples of rare earth elements were measured. As a real sample certified ore containing rare earth elements reference material REE-1 from the Strange Lake deposit, Quebec, Canada was used. Our results for both types of spectrometers confirm assumption that high spectral resolving power spectrometers provide better and reliable result than low spectral resolving power spectrometers with utilization of correction factors.
