Description Strategic planning is one of the effective tools to determine the future development in the selected area. Strategic plans can be processed for spatial units of different categories and levels of self-governing organization, from the local levelto county. The primary task of strategic plans is to set priorities which will guide the further development of territorial unit. Development of strategic plans imposed by law for mandatory but is usually existence of these plans precondition for the drawing of relief funds. The paper discusses the situation of the parties of strategic planning in selected cities of Liberec Region, while the practical part is composed of two main headings. The first circuit is based on a survey of strategic plans for municipalities with extended powers (MEP) and summarize the findings from individual files. The second circuit performs confrontation findings with the requirements which have arisen in the strategic plan of the city Česká Lípa, where the authors of contribution participated in the first half of 2016. Finally, the analysis of the findings and putting them into socio-spatial context.
