Description | We live in a world of change. Society is changing, our lands and landscapes are changing, nature is changing, we change ourselves. Change is an act and a process that does not take place in the vacuum. It takes place in material space, which influences its direction and dynamics. The environment can speed up or prevent changes, often independent of the intention of change movers. Variability of spaces and places makes it impossible to interpret the world traditionally as a relatively stable system. According to Castells, the traditional "space of places" is replaced by "space of streams". Is it just an illusion and the world itself has become a process, or even a system of interacting processes? Are there places just moments at the intersection of these processes, as Tuan once said? Can such a world still be looking for order and regularity or is it better to talk about random variability? |
