| Description | Beetles belonging to the superfamily Hydrophiloidea populate a wide range of aquatic and wetland habitats. Many of these habitats were and still are exposed to the adverse effects of processes associated with industrial as well as agricultural developments. The most affected wetland habitats include the majority of Czech rivers, which were degraded by technocratic modifications during the 20th century in particular – specifically by the channelisation of watercourses, reinforcement of their banks, construction of weirs and dammed reservoirs. |
