Description Radiation monitoring is increasing in demand whether it is monitoring in the surroundings of nuclear power plants, monitoring of former uranium mines or areas before and after remediation. During the traditional way of field monitoring – using human workforce for field measurements – it is possible to encounter inaccessible or dangerous areas. For these reasons the National Institute for Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Protection (SUJCHBO) has created the methodology of the aerial monitoring of ambient dose equivalent rate (ADER) and estimation of its values near the ground with the use of the drone equipped with gamma-spectrometer. Great advantage of the drone is an excellent reproducibility of the measurements as the exact same flight path can be used as many times as needed. Also, different altitudes for the flight path can be set, which is used during the estimation of ADER near the ground from aerial measurements.
