| Description | Josef Podpěra was a personality of the Czech and international botanical scene, who significantly influenced the field especially in the first half of the 20th century. Has his work endured? The article focuses mainly on Podpěra's research in phytogeography of steppes and to a lesser extent on his contribution to bryology. We show that his broadly conceived research, based on extraordinary field experience and excellent knowledge of literature, has led him to a number of findings on which both fields rely up to now. |
