| Description | Based on the analysis of the results obtained by advanced genetic methods, particularly by whole-genome sequencing, the taxonomic position has been revised for a number of bacterial genera. Substantial changes have recently been made to the genus Staphylococcus. Five subspecies have been reclassified as genera, four pairs of subspecies have been merged, and five species have been reassigned to the newly established genus Mammaliicoccus. From January 2019 to October 2020, four novel species of the genus Staphylococcus have been described. |
