Description The subtest for the identification of socio-emotional deficits is an audiovisual work consisting of materials which serve as test items and which together comprise a diagnostic tool for assessment of the ability to perceive and process emotions and emotional expressions. Audiovisual materials are integrated into the subtest, which is part of the complex system GIS – Invenio (where the tool is alternatively called “Frida and the marvelous gallery”). The tool is designed for assessing socio-emotional skills in primary school students, with an emphasis on the identification of deficits in this domain. Conceptually, the subtest builds on the integration of two psychological theories – the CHC model of intelligence and the Salovey-Mayer model. It is a computer-administered method, which makes use of the GBA paradigm: in order to increase motivation and lower test anxiety, the tasks are presented as a computer game, including the use of gamified features (graphical elaboration of the game environment, the presence of story characters etc.). In this particular story, the player lands on a planet with a marvelous gallery and helps its owner, eccentric Frida, and her employees with better understanding of human emotions. The subtest comprises four parts of audiovisual materials: the first are photos and short videos in which actors show emotions of varying kinds and intensity. The second type consists of cartoons, in which a spoken utterance with appropriate intonation has to be assigned to the main character. The third type of materials are videos with added commentary describing the main character and a situation, to which he or she got. The player´s task is to deduce from this context the emotions experienced by the story´s main character. The fourth type are main character´s photos in a social situation. These photos are integrated into short commented sequences. The player´s task is to decide how the main character should act in the presented situation.
