Description We expressed human p53 in avian monoblasts BM2. We showed that in spite of low level of structural homology of human and avian p53 proteins (53%) the human protein is capable of performing at least some of its functions: it blocked proliferation at G2 phase of the cell cycle and induced differentiation to monocytes. In contrast, we did not proved apoptosis-inducing function of human o53 in avian cells. These results document that even significant inter-species differencies tolerate functions of important regulators involved in control of cellular proliferation and differentiation.
