Description In 2002 and 2003, a large number of Sphecodes ephippius and another four species of this genus were captured using flight interception traps in the tree trunk and canopy strata of a Central European floodplain forest (South Moravia, Czech Republic). The considerable flight activity of Sphecodes females in these strata was probably due to their searching for aphids to feed on the honeydew. This assumption is supported by several further studies. Sphecodes females probably spend the night on trees and also feed there.
