The paper presents software diagnostics for autonomous embedded systems. The proposed on-line diagnostics method is based on intelligent watchdog timers monitoring software parts of the embedded system. To satisfy the cost and performance requirements intrusive diagnostics is used. Main contribution of the presented system is its heterogeneous watchdog structure which increases dependability of the monitored system. Software and hardware watchdogs are used together to detect and locate software faults.
