How to apply

This page will guide you through the admission process step by step and important deadlines, so you are not caught by surprise. Even though there may be differences among the respective programmes regarding the admission procedure, you can find the common ground below.

  • Choose your dissertation topic

    You already have one? That’s great news because you can have your very own research and dissertation topics. If you are not sure, however, which way your research should go, you can browse the already existing ones at the respective faculty’s page or consult a doctoral studies office.

  • Contact the doctoral studies office and find a supervisor

    With the programme and topics in mind, the next step is to contact the respective faculty’s doctoral studies office and ask for the Ph.D. supervisors with vacancies. After that, you can contact the supervisors themselves.

  • Apply for your studies

    Check the application deadline – found below on this page or any programme’s page – and submit your e-application (and remember to pay the application fee).

  • Send all the required documents

    You may be asked to provide a number of documents, e.g. a research proposal, academic references, and an academic CV, a personal statements, and more – all the required documents can be found on the programme or faculty pages.

    Ph.D. programme applicants are required to provide a proof of their master’s-level higher education. Details on how to do this can be found here.

  • Get accepted for your Ph.D. and register for your studies

    Each faculty has their own way of admission procedure. The common ground is that due to the high demand for the programmes, you need to make a good impression on the admission committee – show your commitment, resolve and the qualities that will make you a successful and valuable Ph.D. student.

    Faculties brief their application on the admission process at least a month in advance.

    You will learn about the results of the admission procedure from the committee, alternatively a letter or a notice in your e-application. When accepted, you will be provided with the date and details of the registration for your studies.

    If not accepted, you can appeal the decision.

Application deadlines

Deadlines for the submission of electronic doctoral studies applications are set by the faculties for individual programmes and are thus listed directly on the programme websites. The following dates may serve as a general guide:

The entrance application is submitted electronically. This allows you to track your applications status throughout the entire procedure. The application must be submitted by midnight (CET) of the last day of the application submission period. An entrance application is considered submitted in case it is complete and in case the entrance admission fee has been paid.

Each individual entrance application is associated with a fee ranging from CZK 600 to 800, depending on the faculty you are applying to. Payment information for individual electronic entrance applications is generated by the system once an application is complete. Fee payments are made through the Shopping Centre. When submitting multiple applications, all application fees may be paid as a single payment. You do not need to send us proof of payment, but archiving it is advisable.
