The study field Media Studies and Journalism (taught in Czech) provides students with basic knowledge from the theory and history of culture, mass communication, theory and history of journalism, from newspaper, radio and television production and on-line production. It also includes the basics of legal thought indispensable for journalistic practice. In combination with the second major, the study field enables to focus on cultural, economic, social or sport publishing. Journalistic practice is acquired in creative workshops (e.g. in the editorial board of internet magazine STISK – see

stisk.fss.muni.cz) or during internships in media and print . After two semesters, the study field divides into three specialization: 1. journalism, 2. media studies and 3. digital media. Within the degree programme of Humanities, Media studies and journalism can be studied in combination with the following study fields offered by the Faculty of Arts: Czech language and literature, Philosophy, History, German language and literature, Religious studies, Russian language and literature, Theory and history of film and audio-visual culture.
