The building was constructed in the years 1994-1995 under the arrangement for finishing the construction works of the Pedagogical Faculty of MU complex. The authors of the project composition were the architects Vladimír Vychodil and Pavel Kučera, the real projection works were carried out by the studio A 46 under the direction of Jan Nevřiva. The company Mittag Brno was the general supplier of the construction. The building was built into the gap site – its built-up area used for the needs of the faculty had been taken into account since 1986. Concerning the height of the building, it complies with the level of the cornice of the historical faculty (Poříčí 7); therefore, the shapes connect to each other by the use of the traditional gable roof – the central oriel of an arc shape, forming a vertical dominating feature of the object, permeates the roof. A monumental wooden sculpture by Jan Ambrůz called The Gate of Knowledge is placed in the glassed-in first floor.
