Popis Web 2.0 is a label that is commonly applied to technologies allowing their users to actively engage in online collaboration, interaction, and two-way communication (O’Reilly, 2007; Godwin-Jones, 2008). The presentation will describe selected Web 2.0-based tools that the authors used pedagogically in their academic writing projects (publication of a student journal) and courses (for PhD students). Firstly, the Masaryk University Sketch Engine concordancer will be introduced with a focus on the way in which it enabled the students to become more independent of the instructor by displaying typical grammatical and collocational behaviours of selected words from a corpus of genre- and discipline-specific academic texts. Secondly, the use of computer-screen videos in teacher-to-student feedback will be described, which contributed to a more effective media-enhanced review of the students’ written work. Finally, specific e-learning exercises within the university’s Information System will be shown – these were created to help students master some of the lexico-grammatical aspects of academic writing. Overall, the presentation will demonstrate specific instances of the ways the above-mentioned tools were used, evaluating them in terms of their effectiveness and their limits.
