Popis Teachers know that icebreakers represent an effective introduction to language courses. They are not just one of the usual activities, they can help learners get acquainted, encourage participation by all and bring humor into the class. The paper describes five tried and tested icebreakers from ESP university courses, three for new, first-term, students and two for students who continue in more terms courses. The examples are taken from Natural Sciences and Law students, neverthless, they can be easily adapted for other teaching contexts.
