The present project is focused on a thorough linguistic research of all levels of the Czech language from its reconstructed Proto-Slavonic roots to the beginning of Modern Czech (ca. to the end of the 18th century). The research will cover all thespheresof language with a focus on the vocabulary within the system of the language. The project will also cover a training of PhD. students and young scholars. Results of the research will be used for the purpose of teaching at all levels of universitystudies . The aim of the Centre, following the research programmes of both departments, is to provide a description of the development of the Czech language and its vocabulary, including a rich variety of aspects - from the etymologicbases of the individual words and their lexical and grammatical modifications, through the development of the Czech language system to the situation at the end of the 18th century when the language has been transformed into Modern Czech.
