Annotation

The projects sets an aim to observe the roles of the confraternities in the culture of Moravia in the period between the 16th and 18th centuries. In the case of the time before white Mountain the phenomenon of religious-social association will be researched across the confessions, in the time after 1620 until the reforms of Joseph II only within the framework of the Catholic Church, which presented the only official platform for the existence of the confraternities in the specified territory. Besides the research of the system changes in the course of the particular epochs, proper comprehension of principles, which gave enduring character (longue durée) to the confraternities, might be more important. Also material sources will be taken into account in the research. The project concerns the (re)identification of the objects preserved in museum and church collections. Chosen artifacts will be used for the planned exhibition of Moravian religious brotherhoods (Museum of Art-Archdiocesan Museum Olomouc, autumn 2009) and for a catalogue.
