Musical-literary dictionary

Musical works inspired by literary art

This spectacular encyclopaedia in three volumes is based on interconnections between music, literature, and partially also fine art. There are over two thousand entries, composers whose work blends music with literature, both as inspiration and works of literature set to music. The dictionary is the outcome of the author’s remarkable decadeslong excerption work. The individual volumes won prizes in the link to a new window Dictionary of the Year competition organised by the Czech Union of Interpreters and Translators, and the complete publication was awarded the Dictionary of the Year 2014.

The author, Vladimír Spousta is a well-known Czech educator and musicologist, versatile musician, art photographer and painter. His personal bibliography amounts to more than 260 titles.
