This thesis profiles one of the major personalities in the line of the song-collecting in Moravia of the late19th and early 20th centuries. The most of the score records by Martin Zeman from Velka nad Veličkou (1854–1919) were published more than a hundred years ago in two songseditions by František Bartoš and they represent a significant part of the collection, thanks to their range and content. Almost 1,000 folk songs unpublished records still remain in the collector´s estate. The aim of this study was to extend a knowledge of Martin Zeman’s collecting work and to contribute partially to the results of the research carried out during the collections reissue preparation. The thesis author’s research was based on the existing manuscripts and the sources of various nature. Based on the comparative methods and a critical study of the sources, the author came to the knowledge of the extent and methods of Martin Zeman’s collecting and the character of his notation. By comparing and analyzing his manuscripts and printed collections of shapes the author acquired a knowledge of the editorial interventions in collector’s records. Zeman’s personality and his activity outcomes were meant to be a source of inspiration for many of composers, writers, artists and other epresentatives of the social-cultural and scientific events at that time. The Martin Zeman´s collector reference provides a broad subject area of inspiration in the field of the music-educational work. The documents presented in thesis can be used as ideas for educational activities in the musical or non-musical area.
