Annotation

The project focuses on the integration of Vietnamese migrants in Czech borderlands, where a significant number of them resides. The theoretically innovative approach of this research is an exploration of social integration on the basis of the intersectionality between ethnic economies, transnationalism and small-scale localities. Utilizing ethnographic research, two localities in the borderlands (a town and a village) will be explored with regard to the social and economic integration and strategies of migrants. The context of the everyday life in small localities promises to yield different knowledge compared to previous research on this migrant group, which has thus far been conducted only in large cities. In addition, the research will also pay attention to the possible transformation of selected localities brought about by immigration and the responses and strategies of local authorities and natives to the increased migrant population.
