| Popis | The chapter presents an introduction into the region of East Asia from the perspective of international relations and discusses its characteristics relevant for understanding its current political aspects. An apparent contradiction between political-security factors and economic ones are discussed and it is argued that this duality presents a useful way of grasping the interaction between regional actors. In the chapter, history of relations between Slovakia/Central Europe and East Asia is drafted and it is asserted that due to mainly geographical and political factors the relations were not too developed until recently. Consequently, the chapter sums up the content of the book and moves from discussing internal political issues of individual regional actors to the international and global issues. |
