Popis | The securitization of the Roma is characteristic of the recent antiGypsyist wave in Europe. Thispaper provides a case study of its manifestation on the municipal level in a postsocialist context.Using the concepts of social panopticism and banopticon, this analysis claims that specificsecurity practices pursuing both containment and exclusion take place in the localities which house(if not confine) urban outcasts in the Czech Republic. By asking local politicians and bureaucratshow they define the ‘problem’ and what measures they suggest and implement to manage it, thispaper aims to understand how the re/construction of the ‘Gypsy menace’ sustains the neoliberalrevolution from below. |
