Football fan behavior of two most successful football teams in the Czech Republic

| Popis | Football is a phenomenon of the last decades and also due to fans it could become the most popular sport in the world throughout its history. In this context, we realize that the rapid development of sport itself has brought problems and complicated relationships, especially at the professional level. Football fan behavior has been for many years a major cause for concern, not only in the United Kingdom but also throughout Europe, including the Czech Republic. Violent supporter behavior has been identified as football hooliganism and is sometimes referred to as the English disease. The aim of this paper is to identify speeches of fans on the issue which are attending football matches in the Czech Republic. A survey was performed in 2015 year, with data collected from fans (n = 78) aged 23.5 ± 5.6 years old. The paper used quantitative research, methods of analysis, mathematical and statistical methods. The survey shows that classical fans find a biggest problem with physical aggression, firing of pyrotechnics, vulgar chants etc. The survey also confirms that football supporters and hooligans do not find a problem with the firing of pyrotechnics, vulgar chants, whistling etc. Triggers for their behavior are mostly alcohol or other addictive substances, referee´s mistake and aggression from police or security. On the other hand classical fans find the above-mentioned fans´ expressions considerably problematic. Football clubs and organizers look at the classical fan and football supporter primarily as an economic factor. It is important to realize that they are responsible for work with football fans. It is evident that the media play a very significant role in the public´s view of football hooliganism. In our opinion football clubs and media should focus on educational broadcasting, promoting fair play and critically evaluating acts of violence. |
