The topic of the paper is the analysis of indebtedness of municipal budgets in the years 1993 2005 in the Czech Republic and its regulation. The aim is to specify how municipal budgets participate in the total public indebtedness, and to identify instruments that are utilized to regulate municipal indebtedness in the Czech Republic. The focus will also be on the debt service indicator and its relationship to the development of municipal economic activities. The paper should thus contribute to outlining of a possible future solution to municipal indebtedness in the Czech Republic.
