Indentation testing is a common method to investigate mechanical properties of solids near their surface. The elastoplastic properties such as microhardness and Young modulus may be determined from the curves load – depth of penetration (Depth Sensing Indentation - DSI). In our work basic mathematical elements of DSI theory used for explanation and interpretation of experimental results for some pure metals are presented as a results of research.
