Studies in languages other than Czech

Masaryk University offers full degree programmes in languages other than Czech. At the doctoral level, candidates speaking English can enrol into a variety of programmes depending on their research background and interests, and there are also Master's programmes taught in English. Besides, individual courses in English or other languages are included in the curricula of all faculties (often taught by visiting professors), from Bachelor to Doctoral level, and thus the exchange students can choose according to their likes. If you are interested in taking a whole degree, you will get more information at the faculties that currently open programmes in other languages than Czech. The admission offices will provide you with details about the programmes they offer, the structure, required documents applicants need to submit, and also the direct link to online application for the desired programme and field of study.

Master's programmes:

Currently, whole degrees programmes are open in the following fields of Master's studies. By clicking at the faculty name, you enter their websites with information in English. Ph.D. programmes

Doctoral degree programmes are offered in both Czech and English languages at most faculties and in most fields of study all over Masaryk University. We recommend you to consult the list of doctoral degree programmes and contact the specific faculties which run them. Usually, application to Ph.D. programmes includes choosing and consulting a research topic for your doctoral dissertation project, therefore we recommend to contact potential supervisors with relevant academic interests. The admission offices will provide you with the initial information.

Tuition Fees

As the English-taught programmes are not subsidised by the Czech Ministry of Education, they rely on tuition fees covered by students.

What you need to do in case you are interested in studying at MU

  • To submit the application in an electronic form – the deadlines for graduate programmes are 30th April for September enrolment, and 30th November for February enrolment, if the faculties do not specify otherwise. The online form is active for several months prior to these deadlines, and it can be found via links on programmes websites, or directly through link to a new windowElectronic Study Application Form (it is possible to fill it out in English). The application fee is specified in each admission procedure and it usually ranges from 12 – 20 eur (270-400 CZK).
  • To submit relevant materials for the admission procedure – consult the admission office and the websites of the degree programme to which you intend to apply, and send all materials that will be evaluated by the admission committees.

What needs to be done in case of being admitted to a degree programme?

To find out requirements for your stay in the Czech Republic

Students from countries outside the European Union need to apply for a visa to study in the Czech Republic. The visa application should be sent to the Czech embassy or consulate in the student’s home country once the student has received their letter of acceptance from the institute that he/she will attend. You also need to contact Health Insurance Company and obtain a health insurance for the period of stay in the Czech Republic.

Students from the EU (plus Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland) are exempt from student visa requirements. However, students from these countries do need to apply for a temporary residence permit at the Immigration Office if they want to stay in the Czech Republic for longer than three months.
