The former Jesuits’ college building in which the Masaryk University all-university learning centre is located stands opposite the chateau across the Zacharias of Hradec Square. The centre presents Masaryk University faculties’ study and learning opportunities in the region, offering degree and learning programmes within lifelong learning and thereby answering the learning demand of the region by hosting seminars, conferences or summer study courses. The learning centre differs in its location – outside the South Moravia region. The surroundings are highly attractive: the historic Telč centre with picturesque storey buildings with Renaissance gables and arcades. The town has been on the UNESCO world cultural and natural heritage list since 1992.
The university started its learning activities in Telč as early as in 2002 with instruction in a newly reconstructed hall of the local secondary vocational school for forty combined studies students of Art History specialised in care of monuments and safeguarding of cultural heritage. Since the academic year 2004/2005 the Faculty of Economics and Administration has joined in and opened Bachelor’s combined fields of studies specialised in Economics, Public Administration, Regional Development, Tourist Industry, Banking and Management. Along with those fields of study the Telč Centre also runs lifelong learning programmes.
The Telč University Centre plans more enhancements to its activities in the following academic year. New first year students will enrol in the Faculty of Economic and Administration and the Faculty of Arts combined degree programmes, so that the number of students will increase to reach at least three hundred. Besides this, the Faculty of Arts is going to open a University of the Third Age for the local population, again specialised in art history and plans are underway for the idea of teaching a Bachelor’s degree programme with the working name of Business Computing that would be run by the Faculties of Economics and Informatics together.
Aside from regular instruction, the Centre hosts several additional events every month, such as one- or multiple-day seminars, conferences, training days or conference trips. However, there are more users of the premises than just Masaryk University as these are offered for commercial purposes when unoccupied. Services offered to visitors and event organizers are briefly summarized in the UCT information leaflet.
