Popis Economic and social changes after the year 1989 in the Czech Republic have been reflected also in the shopping habits of its inhabitants. Typical everyday shopping has changed from shopping in cornershops to visiting of specialized retail chain stores or shopping precints. Such daily shopping trips are often intertwined with commuting to work, school, or other services and have become an important factor in the daily lives of residents. Such shopping standard is typical not only in the largest agglomerations. This phenomenon has led to the creation of stronger links of inhabitants within a daily urban system. The aim of this contribution is to present some aspects of commuting to retail shops based upon an extensive survey among the inhabitatnts of Brno (second largest Czech city) metropolitan area.
