| Popis | The Guatemalan power elite has maintained its privileges and influence by forging long-lasting marital and business alliances characterized by limited social mobility and inflexible socio-racial practices. This study examines the economics and networks of the contemporary power elite in the 21st century and presents an analytical framework for examining the ties between this elite group and the Guatemalan state. The research examines a multilevel elite network that includes one level of corporate ties involving 1541 offshore entities in Panama and another level of familial ties established through relationships established through shared surnames. The multilevel network serves as a mechanism for elite cohesion in the twenty-first century, where limited elite circulation and persistent male dominance are observed. |
