Popis In complex oncologic treatment, liver resections play a very important role. Their techique is elaborated. Nowadays, the development focuses on miniinvasive treatment modalities and improvement of hemotherapy regimens. The aim of the paper is the presentation of experience of our surgical department. In the time period from 1988 to 2001, 198 patients with malignant liver tumours were operated on in the 2nd Department of Surgery in Brno. There were 132 resections. In 58 patients, a catheter for regional chemotherapy was inserred, either as a palliative intervention, or for adjuvant chemotherapy after resection. In the last 4 years, the in-hospital mortality rate after liver resections was 2%. The median survival of patents after resection of primary liver tumours was 36 months, after resection of liver metastases 34 months, and among pareints treated with regional chemotherapy 17 months.
