Makers cluB: Creativity as a Tool of Change (in Czech)

"The ability to create is our essence." - Philip Stutz

Is there a creative force slumbering within you, just waiting for an opportunity to burst forth? Do you find it difficult to find time to explore it in the hustle and bustle of everyday life? Then it's time to take a break and come to Brno for a few afternoons full of creative activities!

Our course will offer you several ways to awaken and develop your creative abilities, as well as different perspectives on how we can think about creativity.

We will take a look under the hood of several creative industries: we will visit two open workshops where we will try out various tools and technologies - FabLab Brno and the Open Workshop in Rosice. We will also take part in a joint workshop on the importance of creativity in the present and future world.

When we designed the course, we primarily had in mind those who lack the opportunity to cultivate and develop their creativity in their everyday lives. However, we also had in mind the general public, including employees of memory institutions (schools, libraries, museums), cultural and creative industries (gaming industry, publishing, audiovisual industry, freelance artists, etc.) and those who are involved (or would like to be involved) in open workshops in any way.

It is also for those who like to answer questions such as:

  • What makes me lose track of time? What do I enjoy creating the most?
  • Is there a problem, need, or desire that my work can solve, soften, or fulfil?
  • What should the ideal version of my creative process look like?
  • What do I tell myself when I start to doubt myself or my creative journey?

About course

What you will learn

Course graduates will be able to:

  • Identify and apply creative techniques to generate ideas and solve problems in both professional and personal contexts.
  • Operate basic technologies in makerspaces and independently prepare materials for prototype creation.
  • Use the principles of making and polytechnic education to develop digital and manual skills in themselves and their target group.
  • Design future scenarios for the development of creative spaces using speculative design methods, taking into account emerging technological trends (e.g., AI).
  • Implement your own creative project (final exam) from the ideation phase through the selection of suitable materials to the final output.
  • Analyse and apply the principles of open workshops and community centres to your own workplace or community.
  • Reflect on the benefits of manual creation for mental health, mindfulness, and maintaining attention in a digitalised environment.

Employment prospects

Graduates of the course will acquire a combination of soft skills (creativity, problem solving) and hard skills (operating technology in workshops), enabling them to find employment in a wide range of sectors:

  • Education and leisure: As a lecturer, methodologist, or coordinator in informal education, youth centers, polytechnic centers, or school workshops, where the ability to combine modern technologies with manual creation is required.
  • Cultural and creative industries: As a project manager, curator, or creative professional in cultural centers, galleries, and creative hubs that focus on community development and innovation.
  • Public administration and librarianship: As an innovator and founder of community spaces and makerspaces, capable of strategically planning the modernization of services with regard to technological trends (AI, digitization).
  • Information industry and companies: As a member of creative teams focusing on design thinking and rapid prototyping.
  • Working with people and HR: As a facilitator of development programs focused on well-being, mindfulness, and burnout prevention through manual creation and creative expression.
  • Graduates will be better prepared for positions requiring a high degree of adaptability, the ability to work with new technologies, and the skill to design innovative solutions in both team and independent environments.
