Dear Alumni, Ladies and Gentlemen,

with the upcoming semester I would like to inform you about the latest happenings at our Faculty of Medicine.

COVID-19 has stopped or slowed down many of the activities in our society, however, we should continue and strive to educate our students in the whole spectrum of our study programmes: medical fields, dentistry and healthcare fields. Fortunately, a number of exceptions allowed us to continue with education and lead our students to the exams. Therefore, at the beginning of the semester I appealed, despite the tense and uncertain situation, to start the lessons, abiding by the rules we all had to abide by last semester. Thus, we should continue to use the exceptions that allow us to carry out the clinical and practical lessons where possible.

I believe that the situation will settle down and I will have the chance to invite you not only for a friendly meeting, but also to show you our modern SIMU educational centre, which is the biggest simulation medicine centre in Central Europe. I am immensely proud that it was the FM MU team that managed to finish the whole project in the unfavourable pandemic situation. Thanks to that, we were able to make it immediately available to students as of September 2020 and enhance the quality of education at our whole Faculty.

I wish you and your loved ones stay healthy.

Yours sincerely,
Martin Repko

Strategic Plan of the Faculty of Medicine

Throughout the year 2020 and continuing through this year, an intensive preparation of our Faculty’s Strategic Plan for the years 2021-2028 has been underway. The preparation of such a fundamental document is overseen in the whole spectrum of our activities. The correctness of our path of the Strategic Plan preparation was proven during the evaluation of the Faculty of Medicine in front the MU Management, when the compliance with the Strategic Plan of the entire University was confirmed.

The University Blood Donation Cup

Until the end of April, you can participate in a project through which we want to motivate the entire academic community of all Universities in the city of Brno and their supporters to get involved, donate blood and work together to help acquire a life-saving gift. We are a partner of the donor event "4.5 dl for life" and under the patronage of Dean Martin Repko, we organise the University BLOOD DONATION CUP. We would like to challenge and bring together students, employees, graduates and supporters of Masaryk University to help collect the most blood we can together.

So far, donors from 6 Brno Universities have taken part in the event, in alphabetical order namely the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, Masaryk University, Mendel University in Brno, NEWTON College a.s., the University of Defence and the Brno University of Technology. Can we unite all 10 Universities of Brno by the end of the event?

Significant achievments of the CZECRIN infrastructure

The national CZECRIN network, supporting the implementation of academic clinical research in the Czech Republic, has been achieving it’s goals in recent months. The placement within the H2020 projects can be highlighted as a significant success, where CZECRIN took first place in the final evaluation of the number of participations within the involvement of the European Research Infrastructures Consortia (ERIC), as the Czech national node ECRIN-ERIC.

CZECRIN also ended last year with the publication of a new website. It thus offers a helping hand to boost the implementation of clinical research and offers the possibility of cooperation in the implementation of a research project, bringing the areas of clinical research closer to the general public. It is also adapting to the current situation and has prepared a website for comprehensible public awareness of the vaccine against COVID-19. The aim is to monitor side effects and the antibody and cellular response to vaccination through a post-marketing phase IV clinical study. The portal offers visitors frequently asked questions about vaccines and vaccinations, and encourages them to ask other questions that may come to mind. CZECRIN also established a separate web space for experts in the last year, which: is dedicated to clinical studies around COVID-19, maps the involvement of medical facilities within the CZECRIN network and serves publications and interesting links. This information has been available at the new address since the publication of the new website.
