Have a pleasant summer and come to the Reading Room
Dear alumni,
it has been three months since I took my seat in the dean's office of the Faculty of Arts after Milan Pol. Allow me to greet you warmly from my new position. A year ago, we were rejoicing at the relaxation of anti-epidemic measures that had long restricted faculty operations and, above all, our meetings with each other. In that context, we recalled the successful Alumni Day that brought the faculty to life in the June of the 2019 annual year. It is immensely gratifying to look back today on a similar event that allowed faculty members to end the academic year pleasantly and informally, with a drink in hand and the sound of music resounding through the courtyard. We would like to offer a small look back at our afternoon matinee through the lens of Mark Augustine to you as well, and we wish you to enjoy your summer in just such a spirit. I hope that nothing will prevent us from holding similar events in the future and that we will be able to meet you - alumni and alumnae - at one of the lectures or discussions for the public that we are preparing for you in the Faculty Reading Room.
This year, the main library building celebrated 20 years since its opening. To mark the occasion, we asked the staff what has changed in the library over the years or what they like to remember.
Miloš Štědroň will ask whether the musical is "revenge on opera for its pride", Zdeňka Jastrzembská will present the world view of 19th century women and Libor Zajíc will talk about the history of beer.
