Chemoinformatics and Bioinformatics

General information

Branches of chemistry research have recently been closely connected to other branches of science, for example biology; therefore, the effective exchange of information is vital. Due to the growing knowledge content and the development of technology the ability to understand the information about structure and activity/reactivity of (bio)molecules becomes increasingly important. Therefore, the experts able to understand the organization of chemical and biological information are required, as well as those who are able to combine and analyse these data. Such experts would be able to fill in the information vacuum which occurs in the communication between scientists (chemists, biologists,...) and programmers. These experts should be able to provide a common view of the problems related to information for both sides.

The general Bachelor’s degree programme of Biochemistry prepares university educated experts who have knowledge of all areas of Chemistry, such as Biochemistry, Anorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry and Physical Chemistry, and Biology.

A successful graduate is able to

  • master the basics of chemistry disciplines (general, physical, analytical, and organic chemistry and biochemistry), cell biology and genetics, and other natural scientific disciplines (mathematics, physics)
  • gain an orientation in obtaining and processing information (chemistry literature, chemoinformatics, bioinformatics, and data processing)
  • know the basic informatics disciplines (operational systems, networks, and programming)

Graduate employment

If the graduates of this Bachelor's degree programme want to find a job, they can be employed in the areas of programming, database development, processing chemical and biological information, and web applications development.
