Upper Secondary School Teacher Training in History
In preparing students to teach history in secondary schools, the main objective is for them to consolidate and expand their knowledge of history from the Bachelor’s degree programme, acquire the didactic competence to teach history, develop their ability to deal with educational and psychological situations associated with teaching and the running of a school, and develop diagnostic and specialist pedagogical skills linked with the need for an individual and differentiated approach to pupils/students.
A successful graduate is able to
- understand the basic methodological approaches to history and be familiar with academic literature
- analyse historical phenomena and processes and explain the significance of individual historical processes, events, and epochs and their influence on the subsequent development of society
- communicate their knowledge of the subject to pupils/students in accordance with the school’s education programme using modern didactic methodology
- manage the educational process, motivate and communicate with students, and contribute to the running of the school
Graduates from the secondary-school teaching study programme will principally work as teachers of history (as a subject) at secondary schools (grammar schools and secondary vocational schools) and can also teach at primary schools.
