Život a dílo
(Historian Jiří Špét. Life and Work)

Jan Dolák, Marie Gilbertová

The work relates to PhDr. Jiří Špét, CSc. (1928). A graduate of the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, Prague, he studied Czech language and history. After a short period teaching at primary and secondary schools he took to museum work, and after several appointments became Deputy Director of the Central Department of Museology. In 1972–1990 Jiří Špét was a museology official of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. He lectured at postgraduate courses on museology and conservation, at the Department of Museology of Masaryk University, Brno, and at the Summer School of Museology. He has published regularly, in the form of essays and reviews, as well as more extensive studies, monographs and bibliographies. His “non-museological” publishing activities, dedicated to history, historiography, the theory and history of bibliography and the methodology of history teaching, are also impressive.
