At its April session, the Academic Senate of Masaryk University condemned the invasion of the sovereign territory of Ukraine by the Russian Federation and expressed its solidarity with the citizens of Ukraine and with the members of the academic communities of Ukrainian universities and scientific institutions.


Help for Ukraine currently:

  • Volunteers: 892 MUNI HELPS volunteers involved
  • Financial aid: 1.317.379 CZK collected for educational and humanitarian purposes
  • Scholarships: 40 current MU students from Ukraine are supported by MU scholarships
  • Employment: 46 concluded job contracts, 1 before signing the contract, 9 job applications from Ukrainian workers in the process
  • Accommodation: 125 persons from Ukraine were placed in MU accommodation facilities

Admission procedure for students from Ukraine

Masaryk University is opening an extraordinary admission procedure for students from Ukraine in distress. This process is only available to students from Ukraine who have been granted temporary protection pursuant to act number 65/2022 Sb. Scholarships for new students from Ukraine

Masaryk University in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports launched scholarships programmes for Ukrainian students to complete their studies in the Czech Republic. If you have any questions, write at, and always mention the MU faculty of your interest.

Scholarships for current MU students from Ukraine

Ukrainian students who are currently studying at MU in study programs and who have found themselves in a difficult life situation may apply for a scholarship from MU, which may include an accommodation grant. You can find more information on the czech website or please contact us at

Doctoral studies

Project opportunities and paid internships

The research team of MASH Belarus Digital City offers a scholarship for 2-3 Ukrainian Ph.D. students or postdocs. More information at Open positions.

University Hospital at St. Anny Brno offers paid internships (0.5 full-time) for two students from Ukraine in the research team of the Plasticity of Tumor Cells project. The condition for admission is knowledge of English. More information: Karolína Macharáčková, tel.: +420 730 802 691.

Accommodation at MU

In the first weeks after the conflict broke out, Masaryk University offered accommodation to those affected by the war in Ukraine in the MU dormitories, the Šlapanice center and in the rooms and apartments of the Telč University Center. Accommodation capacity is currently occupied.

Crisis line with psychological help

The Institute of Psychology of the Faculty of Arts of MU has set up a crisis psychological helpline for Russian and Ukrainian students, academic staff and citizens living in Brno or the South Moravian Region. Online crisis psychological consultations are provided by the MU Counseling Center.

Interpreting into the Czech language

The MU Faculty of Education and its Department of Russian Language and Literature and the Department of Slavonic Studies at the MU Faculty of Arts are helping Ukrainian citizens with interpreting. If you want to help as a translator, register and fill out a profile in the MUNI HELPS app.

Leisure activities

Botanical Garden of the MU Faculty of Science offers free entry to the greenhouses of the Botanical Garden for Ukrainian citizens. All you have to do is prove your Ukrainian citizenship. More information can be found on the botanical garden website.

Scala University Cinema is preparing screenings in the cinema café as part of the Families Together project, where a Czech family takes care of a Ukrainian family. The program is on Saturday, free entry.

Training courses

The University of the Third Age MU in cooperation with the MU Language Education Center offers:

Czech language course for seniors from Ukraine (Monday and Thursday from 25 April to 30 June 2022) - it is possible to register here.

Intergenerational experiential Czech language course (May 3, May 17, May 31, June 14, 2022) - it is possible to register here.

Courses of Czech for applicants

The Language Centre of Masaryk University organises courses of Czech for students from Ukraine who have applied for study at Masaryk University in the extraordinary admission procedure.

Common Czech (and, through e-learning, Czech for special purposes) courses are currently attended by applicants for study at the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Education and Faculty of Informatics.
