Research Focus
  • Dr. Damborská is an expert in mapping human brain using both intracranial and high density scalp electroencephalography (EEG) in studies of electrophysiological correlates of cognitive functions. Recently, Dr. Damborská has joined two studies of large-scale brain neuronal networks. Her research is aimed at cortico-subcortical functional coupling in Parkinson's disease in one and at electrophysiology of impulsivity in neuropsychiatric disorders in the other project.
    Some of the specific areas of current interest include also study of neurobiological, psychological, and genetic markers of stress response and resilience in holocaust survivors and their offspring with special focus on investigation of the transmission of the trauma.

Research Projects
  • • 2016 – 2019: Modulation of functional connectivity of the large scale cortical networks by deep brain stimulation of subthalamic nucleus
    Sponsor: Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic
    Scalp high-density electroencephalography (EEG) under on and off conditions and advanced analytical methods are used to clarify the impact of deep brain stimulation of subthalamic nucleus (STN) on motor and cognitive cortical networks in Parkinson's disease patients. The project is intended to identify changes in cortical functional connectivity produced by stimulation of STN in order to optimize the treatment, and to find a possible predictive marker of cognitive impairment linked to this therapeutic approach. Moreover, in a subgroup of patients, we investigate cortico-subcortical functional coupling using intracerebral EEG recordings of the subthalamic nucleus simultaneously combined with high-density EEG scalp recording.

    • 2015 – 2018: Impulsivity phenotypes and their clinical impact in neuropsychiatric disorders
    Sponsor: Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic
    The project aims at the development of novel treatment of impulsivity in neuropsychiatric disorders. The project is composed of interrelated tasks that start from description of impulsivity in major neuropsychiatric disorders with prominent impulsivity – Parkinson’s disease, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Borderline personality – followed by outlining clinical consequences of impulsive features, fMRI and high-density EEG analysis of functional neuroanatomy and neurophysiology that will guide transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment trials.

    • 1999 – 2002: Plasticity of Regulatory Mechanisms of the Central Nervous Systems
    Sponsor: Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic
    In this project we investigated the neurobiological and neurophysiological mechanisms of the control of the motor and mental functions, abnormalities of these functions with possible therapeutic intervention or prevention. The project was based on an integration of the pre-clinical research in neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, pharmacology, and of the clinical research in neurology, neurosurgery, plastic surgery and psychiatry.
