He graduated in Geography and Civic Education for secondary schools at the Faculty of Education at Masaryk University (MU), where he also completed his doctoral studies in the field of Education (2008, supervised by Eduard Hofmann) and habilitation in the field of Education (2016). From 2008 to 2018, he worked at the Institute for Research in School Education at the Faculty of Education, Masaryk University. Since 2016, he has been working at the Department of Geography at the Faculty of Education at Masaryk Univesity, where he is involved in teacher education, as well as in research on geography education. In the past, he has been the principal investigator of four projects funded by the Czech Science Foundation (GAČR), focusing on problem-solving competencies in textbooks and geography teaching, visual aids in geography education, and the conceptions of geography teaching. Currently, he is the coordinator of the doctoral study program in geography education and serves on the editorial boards of the journals Zeitschrift für Geographiedidaktik/Journal of Geography Education, Geografie and European Journal of Geography. He also teaches geography part-time at a lower secondary school.

Petr Knecht works as a geography educationist at the Faculty of Education at Masaryk University. In the past, he has been involved in research and teaching in the fields of pedagogy, but currently, he focuses more on geography and various ways of recontextualisation of geography in teacher training and in education. He teaches geography part-time at a lower secondary school. He enjoys teaching at both the higher education and secondary school levels. He likes to read and write, think, innovate, and try new things. He perceives the mistakes he makes as an opportunity for reflection and subsequent improvement.
