History of Universities in Moravia in the period of 1945 - 1990

The research project is to result in a book on the history of the two oldest universities in Moravia, Masaryk University Brno and Palacky University Olomouc, in the period of 1945 -1990. Authors are also going to pay attention to the wider political and legal framework in which both universities would develop in the post-war era. It has to do with such important political turning points as the so-called anticollaboration reviews of all teachers, students and staff of the universities after WWII, politic al purges after the February coup d`etat and other acts of control and repression before and after 1968. The project will be focused in particular on key turning points of the history of both universities, such as reopening of Palacky in 1946, the establ ishment of University of Social Science in Brno, introducing of new higher education system in 1950`s, the impact of 1968 on the two universities etc. November 1989 is considered as the natural turning point.
