One of the key objectives of the current European and national language education is multilingualism,
that is the ability to speak at least two foreign languages in addition to the mother tongue. This situation
makes new demands on the professional competence of foreign language teachers who implement the
concept of multilingualism in educational practice. The proposed project aims to provide a diversified
and deeper insight into the theory and practice of multilingualism on the theoretical and empirical level
using the example of teaching German as a second foreign language after English in the sociocultural and
language environment of Czech schools. Research surveys will be carried out combining qualitative and
quantitative methods, theoretical and empirical research in pedagogy and psycholinguistics.
