This research project is part of my thesis titled “Genetically modified (GM) bt maize: from theory to praxis”. In my thesis I critically evaluate the environmental risk assessment (ERA) of GM maize performed by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and check the reality of premises and promises bound to this crop against Czech GM maize farmers’ experience. The purpose of the current research project is to obtain views from different scientists working with the biosafety assessment on how would they see and prioritise quality criteria for the evaluation of scientific information used for ERA. They will be interviewed about their opinions on the environmental risk assessment carried out by EFSA in its evaluation of applications for commercialization of GM crops. An individual interview will last no more than 1 hour and will be audio recorded upon the agreement of the interviewee.
Apart of their opinions on the ERA, I will collect information about participants' gender, field of expertise, length of their experience, name of the institution they work in, possible ties to industry, and an audio recording of the interview. Participants' data will be anonymized from the beginning of the research project.
